ALTHOUGH WE ARE SURE THAT YOU WILL WANT TO GAIN THE DOG TRICK INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION, YOU CAN GO AHEAD AND MAKE USE OF THE PROFESSIONAL TOOLKIT WITHOUT TAKING THE CERTIFICATION.
Online Test
DogNostics Dog Training Certificate Holder:

DTI Skill Assessment
DogNostics Dog Trainer Certificate Holder
On passing a graded open book test consisting of 20 questions, the applicant will submit one video assessment fulfilling the following criteria:
- All video submissions will be made via the DogNostics Dog Trick Instructor Submission Form
- You can access the submission form via the link above, the QR code below, or via the embedded form at the end of this section.
- All videos must be clearly labeled. For example, Louise Stapleton-Frappell. DTI Assessment One.
- All assessment videos must be submitted on the same form.
- TIME LIMIT: Applicants have six months from the time of purchase, to pass the online test and submit their video assessments. Submissions after the 6-month deadline will be subject to an additional fee of $50.00
- Please complete your open book online test before submitting your video for assessment.
- Please only submit assessment-ready videos.
- You will be permitted a maximum of one re-submission. Any further submissions will be subject to a fee of $50.00
- Video must not exceed 4 minutes but can be shorter.
- The video needs to clearly show you (full body) and human student(s) with their dog(s).
- No music, please.
Please submit one video demonstrating the teaching of the following two tricks to an individual student or a group class.
TRICK ONE
Please demonstrate the teaching of the ‘Close’ Trick.
The canine learner moves into or swings into a left-sided 'heel' position. You may teach using a food lure, hand target, or target stick.
Please include:
- An initial verbal explanation of the terminal behavior.
- An explanation and demonstration of the first criterion you wish the student(s) to teach, including what criterion to mark and when and how to reinforce.
- A minimum 15-second clip that shows you actively coaching a student who is teaching the first criterion.
TRICK TWO
Please demonstrate the teaching of the ‘Watch Me’ Trick.
Please include:
- An initial explanation of the terminal behavior
- An explanation and demonstration of the first criterion you wish the student(s) to teach, including what criterion to mark and when and how to reinforce it.
- A minimum 15-second clip that shows you actively coaching a student who is teaching the first criterion.

As soon as your video submissions have been graded, you will be notified of the results.

Please submit one video demonstrating the teaching of the following tricks to your own dog (no student/s necessary). Video must not exceed 4 minutes but can be shorter.
TRICK ONE
Part One. Lure with a piece of food
a) In a straight line for 1m
b) In a 360º anti-clockwise circle
c) In an “S’ shape
Part Two. Follow the target stick
a) In a straight line for 1m
b) In a 360º clockwise circle
c) In an “S’ shape
Remember to mark and reinforce each behavior clearly and appropriately.
TRICK TWO
Please demonstrate the teaching of the trick ‘In Your Crate’
Please demonstrate your ability to micro-shape a compound behavior that includes interaction with an object. You can make use of targets, props, and known cues. No (food) luring, please.
Please include clips showing the following:
- Demonstrate the beginning of the shaping process. One set of five food reinforcers.
- Demonstration of midway through your training. One set of five.
- Demonstrate how you introduce your final compound verbal cue. One set of five.
- Two repetitions of the final behavior, under stimulus control of verbal cue only (no visual cue)
· Please use an appropriate bridging stimulus.
· Please use appropriate reinforcement strategies.
TRICK THREE
Please demonstrate the trick Go-Around (A Send-Around)
· Please show 3 repetitions of the finished trick.
- Each repetition should be in a different location e.g., in your living room, training room, yard, deck, street…
- Each repetition should make use of a different object e.g., cone, tree, table, person, or another dog (both dogs must be happy about the interaction and appropriately reinforced).
- Each repetition should be at not less than 5 meters.
Please include:
· The use of a verbal cue or visual cue (not both)
· The use of a clicker or a verbal marker (not both)
· An appropriate reinforcement strategy for success.
